It is reported that Sri Lanka has won the hosting of the 2025 Asia Cup Under-22 Boxing Championship.

Accordingly, the relevant tournament is scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka from 10th to 24th of May this year. The Executive Committee of the Asian Boxing Council had made an official announcement in this regard recently.

However, Sri Lanka has not hosted a premier Asian boxing tournament since 1969. In such a background, it is also special that a major Asian regional boxing tournament will be held in Sri Lanka for the second time.Earlier in 1969, the Asian Boxing Championship was held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo.

It is said that plans have been made to hold the matches of this tournament in the vicinity of Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo and Galle Mudoora Pitiya in Colombo. The finals of the recently concluded National Championship Boxing Tournament were also held at Galle Mudoora Stadium in Colombo.

Boxers born in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 will be eligible to join the Asian Under-22 Championship Boxing Tournament this year.Boxing sources say that athletes born in 2007 and 2008 will also have the opportunity to participate in this tournament.

However, it is also a remarkable event that Sri Lanka has the right to host this Asia Cup Boxing Championship tournament based on the success of the program carried out by the Sri Lanka Boxing Federations in the past to develop boxing in Sri Lanka and raise its quality.

Kazakhstan hosted the last Asian Cup Boxing Championship held in 2024. The relevant tournament was held in the months of April and May last year 2024.
