The Asian cross-country running tournament is scheduled to start on the 23rd of this month in Islamabad, Pakistan. A team of 6 sportspersons representing Sri Lanka is scheduled to join.Accordingly, the respective Sri Lankan team left for Pakistan last night (18th).
The President of Sri Lanka Athletics Institute retired Major General Palitha Fernando and General Secretary Saman Kumara Gunawardena will participate in the tournament as the guests of honor representing Sri Lanka. This year the tournament will consist of four categories for women and men.
However, this tournament was previously planned to be held in 2024. However, due to the political instability in Pakistan at that time, this tournament had to be postponed several times.
In the last tournament held in Kohima, Nagaland, India in March 2022, the Sri Lankan team won the runner-up in both the women's and men's categories.
