The 144th Annual General Session of the International Olympic Committee began today (18) in Athens, Greece.
The current President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, is scheduled to end his term in June. Accordingly, it is reported that a new President is scheduled to be appointed at this 144th General Session.
Olympic gold medalist Thomas Bach served as president of the International Olympic Committee for 12 years.
It is also reported that seven people are set to compete for the position of the new president of the International Olympic Committee.
Accordingly, Prince Faisal Al Hussein, who has been a member of the Jordanian Olympic Committee since 2010, David Lapretaint of France, John Eilish, President of the Swedish Ski Federation, Juan Antonio of Spain, Christy Coventry of the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee, and the British Olympic Committee are members.
Similarly, former World Athletics President Lord Sebastian and Japanese Olympic Committee member Morinari Watanabe have entered the race for the next International Olympic Committee presidency.
The International Olympic Committee consists of 110 active members, 39 honorary members, and 206 National Olympic Committees.
