Sri Lanka Test captain Dimuth Karunaratne said that he has decided to step down from the Test captaincy after the Irish team's Sri Lanka test match tour.

Dimuth was said that while addressing the press conference held after the second Test match with New Zealand.

Further Dimuth said that he had discussed with the Sri Lankan Cricket Selection Committee regarding this matter."I have discussed with the Selection Committee regarding the steping down of the captaincy after the  Ireland tour, because the next phase of the World test championship will be implemented in the next two years. So I think it would be better if a new captain is appointed, because it is better to start him from the beginning of the tournament than to do half of it and hand it over to him. Accordingly, even after discussing with the selection committee, I still did not get a right answer. However, my thoughts are after the next tournament. To give opportunity to the new leader."
