The Ministry of Sports has announced that the Asian Rugby Federation has agreed to provide support for the development of Sri Lankan rugby.

The Minister of Sports recently met Asian Rugby Federation chairman Mr. Qais Al-Dhalai at the Asian Rugby headquarters in Dubai to clarify the facts about the Stabilization Committee appointed for the development of Sri Lanka Rugby.

In that meeting, the minister has explained that he is willing to provide maximum support for the development of Sri Lankan Rugby and that is why, he has appointed the Stabilization committee for SLR.

The minister has explained that due to several factors including the Sri Lanka Rugby Federation's failure to work for the development of the game in the past few years and  because of that the committee was appointed according to the Sports Act.

The Minister of Sports has also said that it is expected to hold the election of the Sri Lanka Rugby Federation in the August 2023.
