The report
related to the long investigation conducted by the Department of Sports
Development regarding the actions of the Army, Air Force and Navy Kabaddi
Associations to arbitrarily withdraw the players representing their
associations in the recently concluded National Kabaddi Championship Tournament
has been forwarded to the Sports Minister for further action.
An investigation committee appointed by the Sports Development Department has conducted the relevant investigation. In a letter issued by the Director General of Sports after the investigation, stated that the Sports Development Department is fully responsible for the players in the squad and cannot be withdrow arbitrarily. Also, if the athletes are withdrawn for any reason, a formal approval should be obtained for it. Henceforth the athletes who have been selected for the national squads, should not be withdrawn from the national squads without the approval of the Director General of Sports.
However, due to the controversial situation between the National Kabaddi Federation and the Kabaddi Associations of the Army, Air Force and Navy, the above associations had taken steps to withdraw the athletes who participated in the last National Kabaddi Championship Tournament from the squads they represented. At that time, several parties accused the Army, Air force and Navy Kabaddi authorities of playing Kabaddi politics by spoiling the quality of the tournament. Also, to achieve their own narrow goals, the military, air force and naval Kabaddi authorities sacrificed athletes is another accusation made at that time.
After that,
when the National Kabaddi Federation prepared to conduct a special
investigation regarding this matter, the military, air and naval Kabaddi
authorities had informed that they would not participate in such an
investigation. Accordingly, the associations had suggested that this
investigation should be conducted by the Ministry of Sports. It is also
remarkable that the above decision was given after a long investigation.
