It is reported that Mr. Sumathi Dharmawardena, Additional Solicitor General of Sri Lanka's Attorney General's Department, has been appointed as the new chairman of the International Cricket Council Anti-Corruption Unit.
Accordingly, in the official announcement issued by the International Cricket Council regarding this new appointment, it was stated that Mr. Sumathi Dharmawardena will assume the responsibilities of that position from tomorrow (1st).As the new chairman, Mr. Dharmawardena will be responsible for supervising and leading the activities of the International Cricket Council Anti-Corruption Unit. Moreover, ICC The announcement also states that the activities of the anti-corruption unit will be directly managed only by its executive committee.
President's Counsel Mr. Sumathi Dharmawardena has gained a wealth of experience by serving as the Additional Solicitor General of the Attorney General's Department of Sri Lanka and has represented the Ministry of Sports and the Government of Sri Lanka on many occasions in various legal matters.
Before being appointed as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council Anti-Corruption Unit, Mr. Dharmavardhan has been working with the International Police, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and investigating corruption in sports.In addition, the International Cricket Council had further stated in the notice issued regarding this appointment that Mr. Dharmawardena is a distinguished officer who supervised several investigations and prosecutions under the Prevention of Misconduct Act related to the Sports Act of Sri Lanka.
Earlier, ICC Sir Ronnie Flanagan, who served as the chairman of the anti-corruption unit, recently decided to step down after completing his 14-year tenure.
