The Sri Lankan team had to experience an unexpected defeat against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup Women's T20 cricket tournament held in Malaysia yesterday (16th).
In this match held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Sri Lanka won the toss and were invited to Bangladesh to score first. One innings of this match was limited to 17 overs due to bad weather conditions.Accordingly, Rashmika Sevwandi managed to get Juralia Fernandez out before the Bangladesh scoreboard even started, but Mozzamat Awa and Sumaria Akhtar managed to add 44 runs for the second wicket. Mosmat Awam scored 18 points and Sumaria Akhtar scored 24 points.
However, the Sri Lankan bowlers were able to restrict Janatul Mauwa to 6 runs and skipper Sumaiya Akhtar to one run. But Afia Ashima scored 25 runs and Saeedah Akhtar scored 31 runs to stabilize the Bangladesh innings.
According to that, Bangladesh under-19 women's team scored 122 runs for 9 wickets at the end of the scheduled 17 overs. While bowling for Sri Lanka, Rashmika Sevwandi took 4 wickets while Pramudi Metsara and Asheni Galagune shared 2 wickets each.
Hiruni Hansida was dismissed without scoring as the first wicket of the Sri Lankan team chasing that challenging goal and Sanjana Kavindi, who became the second wicket, scored 21 runs. Limansa Thilakarantha could collect only 16 points.
Sumudu Nisansala was out for 15 runs while skipper Manudi Nanayakkara was out for 5 runs. Rashmika Sevvandi, who played a fighting innings, scored 20 runs.
However, at the end of the scheduled 17 overs, the Sri Lankan team could collect only 94 runs for 8 wickets.While bowling for Bangladesh, Sawmya Akhtar took 3 wickets while Nishta Akhtar and Farjana Esmeen shared 2 wickets each.
