It is reported that due to the inability to find a proper sponsor and the lack of positive contribution from the Sri Lankan sports authorities, the South Asian Karate Do tournament organizing has become a big challenge.
The 2022 South Asian Karate Do Tournament is
scheduled to be held on the 26th and 27th of this month at the Sugathadasa
Indoor Stadium in Colombo.
More than 85 athletes from one country
representing 6 countries in the South Asian region are scheduled to come to Sri
Lanka. Also, it has been learned that the athletes of several countries have
already booked flight tickets and hotel rooms.
However, since a sponsor for the tournament
has not been found so far, the Sri Lanka Karate authorities have faced a
problem in securing the necessary funds to reserve the Sugathadasa Indoor
Stadium for this tournament. If they spend the limited funds of that federation
and bear the expenses of the South Asian Karate Do tournament, including
reserving the stadium, they will face a problem in providing the necessary
funds for the future activities of the Sri Lanka Karate Do Federation.
Due to the fact that almost a thousand foreign athletes came to Sri Lanka through this tournament, although it has contributed favorably to the promotion of tourism, it is a pity that the authorities have not paid proper attention to it.
