Sanath Jayasuriya, the head coach of the Sri Lankan national cricket team, said that the mistakes and shortcomings made by the Sri Lankan batsmen during the New Zealand tour should be avoided in the future.Sanath Jayasuriya said this while speaking to the media at Katunayake Bandaranaike Airport this morning (13th) after the New Zealand tour.
Sanath further commented that 'we could have easily won not one but two matches in the Twenty20 tournament. Both I and the team are very sorry for losing that tournament. The team played very well in the final match of the 50 overs tournament. In the first 10 overs of the first two games, our batsmen were not among the runs. However, it is very difficult when 4 or 5 wickets fall in such situations. But in the third game, they corrected those mistakes and played well and won. These mistakes cannot continue. Accordingly, we are now trying to minimize the shortcomings as much as possible when leaving the country. This same thing has happened to us before leaving the country. But in the future that situation will change.'
The head coach of Sri Lanka also commented on Sri Lanka's next challenge and said, 'There are 2 Test matches with Australia next. They will be held in Galle at the end of this month. For that, the training activities will start in a few days. The players in Sri Lanka have already started their training.'
Commenting on the team composition and Pathu's injury during the Australian tour, Sanath also said: No decision has been made yet about a change in the team. But the only thing is Pathum Nissanka's disability.Unfortunately, in the third one-day match, Pathum suffered a leg injury. The situation is still not very good. We need to see what will happen in the future.'
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka's ODI and T20 captain Charit Asanka, who spoke here, said this. It was not possible to finish the tournament as expected. But we go to a tournament hoping to win. But I think there are many positives in the tournament. It may be win or lose but the team is very different now. Even when the New Zealand team came here, they lost the matches 2-0. When they came here we played on spinning pitches. In New Zealand we get fast pitches. We have to prepare for it.'
