Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell had said that he had high hopes for joining the Sri Lanka tour as a re-entry into Test cricket for Australia.
Accordingly, Maxwell has said this while speaking to the local media about not being included in the Australian squad named for the 2-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Maxwell had made the following comments while addressing the Australian media.
This is the nature of team selection. But every time any cricketer wants to join the test team. It is not a secret when it comes to me. I seriously wanted to enter the Test field again by joining the Sri Lanka series. However, I fully agree with their arguments regarding my non-selection. But the fact is that Australia has already qualified for the final of the Test World Championship. In spite of that, they join a series of 2 Test matches in Sri Lanka. Also, Australia is going to participate in several tournaments in the Asian region in the future. Accordingly, several regular members of the Test team could have been rested and given the opportunity to someone else.'
Glenn Maxwell last represented the Australian Test team in 2017.Maxwell, who is now 36 years old, has played 7 Tests, 145 One Day Internationals and 116 Twenty20 Internationals for Australia. There, Maxwell has been able to collect one Test century, 4 ODI centuries and 5 T20 centuries.
However, the country's cricket administration has decided to include Maxwell in the Australian squad named for the Champions Trophy one-day tournament in Pakistan.
