The 'Northern Province Open All-Ceylon Badminton Tournament' organized by the Northern Province Badminton Association under the leadership of the Sri Lanka Badminton Federation is scheduled to start on the 18th.
The tournament, which will start tomorrow at the Vavuniya District Sports Complex, is planned to be held until the 21st.The main objective of organizing this tournament has been to promote the sport of badminton in the Northern Province and to improve the skills of the Northern Province athletes and raise their rankings.
Also, 41 of Sri Lanka's leading badminton stars such as Tenuka De Silva, Ashinsha Herath, Thilina Rajakaruna, Savinka Weerasekera and Malitha Suriyaarachchi are scheduled to participate in the men's singles event of this year's tournament.In addition, 14 leading badminton players such as Situli Ranasinghe, Panchali Adhikari, Warangana Jayawardena, Senadhi Dhammasa are scheduled to join the women's singles event.
Also in the men's doubles event, Sri Lanka's top players Buwaneka Gunathilaka and Jason Homer, Senuk Samararatne and Savinka Weerasekhara are scheduled to represent that event in this tournament. It is also special that 21 pairs of players are going to enter the competition field for the men's doubles event this year.
