Kandy SC kept their unbeaten record intact when they edged Navy SC 21-18 in an exciting SLR Nippon Paint Inter-Club League Rugby Tournament match played at the Nittawela Stadium in Kandy.

The defending champions survived another late rally from their opponents before they scraped through, scoring three goals after leading 14-8 at half time. The Sailors responded with one goal, one try, one penalty and one drop goal. Kandy SC got off to a good start and scored twice inside the first 20 minutes of play with centre Danushka Ranjan and Uchith Jayasuriya going over the whitewash, while Tharinda Ratwatte added the extra points.

Navy SC opened the scoring through a drop goal from Samuel Maduwantha and scored their first try in the 34th-minute through Pulasthi Dassanayake. Maduwantha further reduced the lead for Navy SC with a superb penalty shortly after resumption, but Kandy SC came back strongly with their third try from Damien Ratwatte. However, Navy SC brought the game alive once again when dynamic flanker Radeesha Seneviratne went over for a vital try giving Maduwantha an easy conversion to reduce the margin to just three points. Kandy SC held on determinedly during the last 10 minutes of the game and went on to register their fourth successive victory of the tournament.

Meanwhile, CR and FC cleared another tough hurdle when they brought down archrivals CH and FC 27 19 in another Nippon Paint Inter-Club League Rugby Tournament match played at the Racecourse Grounds in Colombo.
