The Ratmalana Public Services Cricket Ground, newly renovated under Sri Lanka Cricket’s “National Development Path” program with full financial support from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), and the newly constructed sports complex building were officially handed over to the Public Services Cricket Association today (14th). This event was held under the leadership of Shammi Silva, Chairman of SLC and the Asian Cricket Council.
The state-of-the-art sports complex, built with an investment of approximately LKR 60 million by SLC, was also inaugurated today, marking a significant milestone. At the invitation of Nalin Aponsu, Chairman of the Public Services Cricket Association and a member of the SLC Executive Committee, and Udaya Imalsha, Secretary of the Association, Mr. Silva graced the event with his presence.
This ground is expected to serve as an excellent alternative for schools facing a shortage of cricket facilities. In the future, it will also host school cricket matches and age-group tournaments organized by SLC. Furthermore, the facility will provide opportunities for training sessions to enhance the skills of male and female cricketers.
In addition to the new sports complex, plans are in place to install a scoreboard at the venue soon. SLC also intends to establish a fully equipped indoor cricket training facility at the site to benefit cricketers in the surrounding areas. During his visit, Mr. Silva inspected the progress of these plans and instructed SLC officials to expedite the implementation of the project.
Other attendees at the event included:
Raveen Wickramaratne, Vice Chairman of SLC
Sujeewa Godaliyadda, Treasurer of SLC
Nalin Aponsu, Chairman of the Public Services Cricket Association
Kamal Dharmasiri, Head of the National Development Division
Several members of the Public Services Cricket Association were also present, marking this as a significant step in improving cricket infrastructure and providing equal opportunities to aspiring cricketers in Sri Lanka.
