Seven-wicket win for Australia against Sri Lanka at the super 12 match at the t20 World cup. A solid net run rate boost for them. Thanks to Stoinis, who smashed Australia's record-setting T20I fifty.
Chasing a challenging
score, the Aussi's didn't get off to good start. They didn't hit a single
boundary in seven overs and the score read 38/1. Wanindu Hasaranga - Sri
Lanka's best bowler of the tournament - was conceded 15 runs off his opening
over. Mitchell Marsh fell in the following over but that didn't stop Maxwell
from going after Hasaranga.
At 85/2 at the
halfway stage, Australia were back on top but Sri Lanka fought back by
conceding just 4 runs off the next 14 balls including Maxi's wicket. The hosts
would have been under a bit of pressure, but Stoinis arrived at five and
extinguished any SL hopes. He got going with a couple of fours, then went 6 4 6 against Hasaranga and later didn't spare
Theekshana as well hitting three sixes off him in an over.
After losing the toss Sri Lanka put in to bat
first. But Kusal Mendis went early just for 5 runs. But Dananjaya de Silva and
Pahum Nissanka added 69 runs for 2nd wicket. Dananjaya went early after scored
26 from 23 and Pathum Nissanka run out for 40.
Bahuka Rajapaksa only managed to scored 7 and
Sri Lankan captain could onle scored 3. 38 came off the last 18 balls -
and 20 of those in the final over - as Charith Asalanka helped Sri Lanka past
the 150-run mark. The left-hander hit 38* off 25.
