Reports indicate that Sri Lanka is considering hiring a foreign coach for the national rugby team in preparation for the upcoming Asian Rugby Championship.

Previously, Sanath Martis, a well-known and experienced rugby coach, led the Sri Lanka team during matches against Malaysia and the New Zealand U85 team. However, after the matches with the New Zealand U85 squad, Martis resigned from his post due to personal reasons, which are reportedly linked to a conflict with the National Sports Council.

Following his resignation, discussions have emerged about recruiting a foreign rugby coach to lead the team moving forward.

Despite the uncertainty in leadership, the Sri Lanka rugby team has already begun training for the championship. However, player participation has reportedly been low, raising concerns about team preparedness ahead of the major tournament.
