Sri Lanka Wins 26 Gold Medals at the Ceylon Masters Badminton Championship

Sri Lankan players achieved the highest recognition at the Ceylon Masters International Badminton Championship, winning a total of 26 gold medals. This tournament was organized in collaboration with Sri Lanka Badminton and Ceylon Masters Badminton and was held over four days at the indoor sports complex of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo 10.

In addition to the 26 gold medals, Sri Lanka also secured 18 silver medals, claiming first place overall. India finished in second place, with 11 golds and 17 silver medals.

Nadeesha Gayathri emerged as a standout performer, winning four gold medals. Former national champion and Olympian Niluka Karunaratne, along with Manjula Sampath, also secured three gold medals each. Niroshan Wijekoon claimed two golds.

The Ceylon Masters International Badminton Championship featured singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events for both men and women, across age categories ranging from 35+ to over 75. More than 350 badminton players from around the world took part in the tournament.

Indonesia managed to win four gold and four silver medals. The United Arab Emirates and Switzerland each secured one gold and one silver medal, placing them among the top five countries in the tournament.

In addition to medals and certificates, a total cash prize of USD 10,000 was awarded to the winners. The awards ceremony was graced by Sri Lanka Badminton President Roshan Gunawardena, Ceylon Masters Badminton President Rohan de Silva, and Rev. Fr. Ranjith Andradi, the Rector of St. Joseph’s College, along with many distinguished guests.
