Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sunil Kumara Gamage, has urged direct reporting of institutional fraud and corruption, emphasizing the importance of transparency within the country's sports sector. The Minister made these remarks on the morning of November 28, during an inspection visit to the Sugathadasa National Sports Complex Authority.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Gamage stressed that despite past political divisions and challenges, it was essential not to forget the wrongdoing of fraud and corruption that have marred the system. He stated, "Our goal is to build a compassionate society, free from fraud and corruption. We must create a country where such issues do not thrive. Institutional fraud and corruption must be reported directly to us. Previously, it was difficult to raise these issues because higher authorities were often involved, but now, this will no longer be the case. We welcome your cooperation without fear."

During the visit, several issues concerning the development and maintenance of sports infrastructure under the Sugathadasa Sports Complex Authority were discussed. These included updates on the renovation of the artificial running track at Sugathadasa Stadium, the privatization of 73-perch land under the Authority, and other infrastructure developments. Moreover, concerns about institutions owing large sums of money to the Authority and other matters related to the governance of various sports grounds were brought to the Minister’s attention.

The inspection tour was attended by key officials, including Deputy Minister of Sports, Sugath Thilakarathna, Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Eranga Gunasekara, and senior ministry officials such as Secretary Aruna Bandara and Chairman of Sugathadasa Sports Complex Authority, Gamini Vikramapala.

This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to improve accountability and integrity within Sri Lanka's sports sector, aiming to eliminate corruption and establish a more efficient management system for sports infrastructure and governance.
