It is reported that the Mumbai Indians owners have promoted its head coach Mahela Jayawardene for a top position.

Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene Mahela has been appointed as the Global Head
of Group Performance and hence has to step down as the head coach of the Mumbai
Indians. According to this new appointment Mahela has been entrusted with the responsibility
of providing leadership for the global cricket operations including the overall
strategic planning of the group, creating a global high performance
environment, creating the training structures of each team as well as working
closely with the head coaches of all the teams to build a stable and more
prominent cricket brand.

Indians ownership has been given this new position to Mahela in conjunction
with the purchase of the M.I. Cape Town and M.I. Emirates teams.
