Tarushi Karunaratne, who represented the women's 800m event on the last day of the Asian Championships, won the gold medal and Gayantika Abeyratne won the bronze medal.
Tarushi Karunaratne finished the final in 02:00.66 minutes which is her personal best and it is also a new tournament record and Sri Lanka record in this event. The previous record of 02:01.16 minutes was set in 1998. Accordingly, Tarushi Karunaratne was renewed, a record that was 25 years old.
Susanthika Jayasinghe was the last person to set a tournament record for Sri Lanka in the Asian Athletics Championship, which was established in 2002 for the 200m event. Accordingly, a Sri Lankan made an Asian Championship athletics tournament record only after 22 years.
Gayantika Abeyratne, who won the bronze medal in the same event, finished the race with a time of 02:03.25 minutes.
Although the Sri Lankan team won the gold medal in the men's 400x4 meter relay event at the Asian Championship Athletics Tournament. They finished that event recording a time of 03:01.56 minutes. This is a new tournament record as well as a new national record. Aruna Darshan, Kalinga Kumarage, Rajitha Rajakaruna and Pabasara Nikoo represented the Sri Lankan team.
The Indian team won the silver medal in this event and Qatar won the bronze medal.
The Sri Lankan athletes also managed to win the silver medal in the women's 400x4 meter relay event in the Asian Championships. Recording a time of 03:33.27 minutes. Nadisha Ramanayake, Tarushi Karunaratne, Sayuri Mendis and Nisendra Fernando represented the Sri Lankan team.
Vietnam won the gold medal in this event and India won the bronze medal.
