The foreign media had reported that Australia's former cricket captain Ricky Ponting is to be appointed as the head coach of the Punjab Kings team in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Currently, 49-year-old Ricky Ponting has led Australia's cricket team and won consecutive World Cup doubles in 2003 and 2007 without losing any match. Ponting played for Australia from 1995 to 2012.
Also Ponting, IPL Played for Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians in the tournament. He has also worked as the coach of the Mumbai Indians team from 2014 to 2016. He last coached the Delhi Capitals team for 07 years from 2018.
Under Ricky Ponting's coaching, Delhi Capitals reached the semi-finals in 2019 and 2021 and reached the final in 2020.
The Delhi Capitals have been lagging behind in the Indian Premier League for the last few years and resigned as coach.
After signing an agreement for the position of head coach with the management of the Punjab Kings team, he will take over as the head coach of the Punjab Kings team in the Indian Premier League from 2025.
