Isipathana College wins the President’s Trophy in school rugby for the second consecutive time

Isipathana College, Colombo, managed to clinch the President’s Trophy at the Dialog Schools Rugby Tournament (18th). The final of the 2025 President’s Trophy School Rugby Championship was held between Isipathana College, Colombo, and Trinity College, Kandy, at the Royal College Rugby Grounds in Colombo. In a closely contested match, Isipathana College secured victory with a score of 12-9.

At halftime, Isipathana led with a narrow 7-6 advantage. In the second half, both teams missed several penalty kicks, which was a noticeable aspect of the game. In the 49th minute, a tense situation arose between the two teams, but play resumed after the referee intervened with a warning. In the 60th minute of the second half, Trinity College’s Shan Altaf successfully scored another penalty, bringing Trinity’s total to 9 points.

However, in the final minute of the game, Isipathana College managed to score a decisive try and secured a narrow victory. Accordingly, Isipathana recorded one penalty, a conversion, and a try. Trinity’s 3 penalty goals were all scored by Shan Altaf. Thus, Isipathana College prominently secured the Dialog President’s Trophy for the second consecutive year.

In the Premier Trophy final of the tournament, held at Havelock Grounds on the same day (18th), Ananda College, Colombo, faced St. Benedict’s College, Kotahena. Ananda College claimed the Premier Trophy with a 25-10 win.

The Chairman’s Trophy final also took place at Havelock Grounds on the same day (18th), between Maharagama Central College and Lalith Athulathmudali College, Borella. Maharagama Central College won that match with a 12-8 score and claimed the Chairman’s Trophy.
