Due to the injuries of Kusal Janith and Pathum
Nissanka, Dimuth has been included in the squad named for the World Cup
qualification tournament and the Afghanistan team's tour to Sri Lanka.
According to reports, Kusal Janith and Pathum
have suffered minor injuries during the training sessions held at the R. Premadasa
Stadium, for the World Cup qualifying tournament.
The Sri Lankan selection
committee recently decided to name a preliminary squad for the one-day World
Cup qualification tournament to be started in Zimbabwe next
month. The current Test captain
Dimuth Karunaratne was not named for the thirty-man one-day squad.
However, as of this morning,
reliable sports sources state that due to the injuries of Kusal Janith Perera,
who was injured during the tour of New Zealand, and Pathum Nissanka, who was
not included in the Irish tour, Dimuth Karunaratne has been named in the ODI
squad again.
The last time Dimuth Karunaratne represented Sri Lanka in an ODI was in 2020 and he was also the captain of the national team at that time.
