The Wattegama Educational Zone Athletics Championship concluded recently with Walala A. Ratnayake Central College emerging as the overall champions.
The event, held at the Digana Provincial Sports Complex, saw Walala A. Ratnayake College securing both the overall boys' and girls' championship titles, marking a remarkable double victory. A total of 87 schools participated in this competitive athletics meet.
The Best Male Athlete award was won by H. Abishek from Rajawella Hindu National School, while the Best Female Athlete title went to D.N. Ratnayake of Walala A. Ratnayake College.
Among the distinguished guests at the closing ceremony were Sunil Jayawira, former Director of Physical Education and Sports at the Ministry of Education, and Tharushi Karunaratne, the Asian gold medalist in athletics. Also present were Athula Jayawardena, Assistant Director of Education (Central Province), and several other key education and sports officials.
The event was organized under the guidance of Zonal Education Director Tharanga Gunaratne and Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sports, Susantha Fernando.
