On the opening day (17th) of the first Test match of the Bangladesh tour of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, batting first, reached 292 for the loss of 3 wickets at the close of play after 90 overs. The match is being held at the Galle International Cricket Stadium.

Bangladesh captain won the toss and opted to bat first. The innings opened with Shadman Islam and Anamul Haque, but they managed only 5 runs for the first wicket. Anamul Haque was dismissed without scoring by Asitha Fernando, while Shadman Islam scored 14 runs before becoming debutant Tarindu Ratnayake’s maiden Test wicket, caught by Kamindu Mendis off a lofted delivery.

Mominul Haque contributed 29 runs before falling to a slip catch by skipper Dhananjaya de Silva off Tarindu Ratnayake’s bowling. However, Bangladesh stabilized the innings with a solid unbeaten 247-run partnership for the fourth wicket between skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto (136*) and Mushfiqur Rahim (105*).

This match also marks the final Test appearance of Sri Lanka's legendary all-rounder Angelo Mathews. In honor of his retirement, Sri Lanka Cricket organized a special tribute before the match, attended by members of Mathews’ family.

Debutants Tarindu Ratnayake and Lahiru Udara made notable entries into Test cricket for Sri Lanka, with Ratnayake especially standing out with his performance.
