Bangladesh captain won the toss and opted to bat first. The innings opened with Shadman Islam and Anamul Haque, but they managed only 5 runs for the first wicket. Anamul Haque was dismissed without scoring by Asitha Fernando, while Shadman Islam scored 14 runs before becoming debutant Tarindu Ratnayake’s maiden Test wicket, caught by Kamindu Mendis off a lofted delivery.
Mominul Haque contributed 29 runs before falling to a slip catch by skipper Dhananjaya de Silva off Tarindu Ratnayake’s bowling. This match also marks the final Test appearance of Sri Lanka's legendary all-rounder Angelo Mathews. In honor of his retirement, Sri Lanka Cricket organized a special tribute before the match, attended by members of Mathews’ family.
