Sri Lanka Badminton Institute has taken steps to establish a badminton association in Sabaragamuwa for the first time after 70 years.

Accordingly, the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Badminton Association was established recently by merging Ratnapura and Kegalle districts, and Mr. Roshan Gunawardena, a vice-president of the Sri Lanka Badminton Institute, has been appointed as its chairman.
Due to decades of inactivity, the badminton athletes of that province did not get the facilities they deserved, and the opportunities lost to the athletes of Sabaragamuwa province through the holding of seeding tournaments in all provinces will be regained by the establishment of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Badminton Association.
Next June, holding a tennis competition focusing on Ratnapura district, distributing badminton sports equipment to 100 difficult schools in Ratnapura and Kegalle districts and training and awarding certificates to 200 teachers.Initiation of two badminton training camps for coaches in Sabaragamuwa province and training camps for badminton umpires and side umpires in Ratnapura and Kegalle districts,The Sabaragamuwa Provincial    Badminton Association stands out among the proposals made at the meeting for the establishment of the Badminton Association and the appointment of the officers.
The appointment of the new officers of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Badminton Association was done under the supervision of Mr. Chamara Alutge and Mr. Buddhika de Silva, the Vice Presidents of the Sri Lanka Badminton Institute.Mr. Palitha Hettiarachchi and Coordinator Thilina Dantasinghe of Sri Lanka Badminton Institute Regional Development Committee also participated in the event.
