Rashmi Mudalige Claims Triple Titles

Rashmi Mudalige delivered a standout performance at the recently concluded All-Island Mercantile Open Badminton Championships, securing three major titles — Women’s Singles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles — cementing her status as a top badminton prospect for Sri Lanka on the international stage.

The tournament, organized by the Mercantile Badminton Association under the approval of Sri Lanka Badminton, was held at the Mercantile Badminton Courts, where over 1,200 players from across the country participated.

In the Women’s Singles final, Rashmi defeated Suhasni Vidanage with scores of 21-17 and 21-12. She partnered with Warangana Jayawardena to win the Women’s Doubles final, beating Dilini Ambalangoda and Ranumi Manage 21-16 and 22-20. In the Mixed Doubles, alongside Lochana de Silva, she overcame Thulith Palliyaguru and Panchali Adhikari 22-20, 10-21, and 21-19 in a thrilling match.

Savinaka Weerasekara emerged as the Men’s Singles champion after defeating Thilina Rajakaruna 23-25, 21-11, 21-12.
The Men’s Doubles title was won by Raihan Gusiyaputra and David Homer, who triumphed over Alan Christanto and Marcelo Menake 16-21, 21-15, 21-15.
Chalana Weerakoon claimed the Veterans Singles title with a 21-18, 21-7 win over Hewindu Tilakasena.

In the Under-19 Boys' Singles, Thidasa Irushika defeated Reshan Dimbukkawala to claim the title, while Nethmi Rathnayake secured the Girls’ Singles title in the same age category by defeating Ranumi Manage.

Nethil Thewmika and Maneth Theekshana won the Under-19 Boys’ Doubles, beating Pamith Atthanayake and Thidasa Irushika.
In the Under-19 Girls’ Doubles, Thiseja Herath and Kethnara Kumarapperuma claimed the title with a victory over Dilini Ambalangoda and Ranumi Manage.

The All-Island Mercantile Open is recognized as a ranking tournament at the national level, making Rashmi Mudalige’s triple crown victory even more significant in the context of Sri Lankan badminton.
