There is a strong possibility that Sri Lanka will host the 2026 Boxing World Championship, according to a recent announcement by the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC).

Discussions regarding this major event were held during a meeting between Chris Roberts, CEO of the International Boxing Association (IBA), Asis Kohembetov, acting president of the Asian Boxing Confederation, and Anuruddha Shanaka Bandara, president of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka, along with the Minister of Sports of Sri Lanka.

The decision is largely influenced by the successful hosting of the U22 and Youth Boxing Championships in Sri Lanka, which established the country as a promising venue for major international boxing events.

If finalized, this will mark the first time Sri Lanka hosts the Boxing World Championship, signifying a historic milestone for the nation’s sporting landscape.
